Codependency
Codependency is a dysfunctional relationship dynamic that can occur in romantic relationships, between parents and children, friends and other family members. This dynamic is often recognized by one party taking on a "giver"-role, while the other becomes a receiver and, in the worst case, an exploiter.

Healthy relationships are mutually beneficial, providing love and support to both parties. Codependent relationships, on the other hand, are one-sided, where a person is constantly put in the role of carer. By being caring, functional, and helpful, that person is helping to support, maintain, or enable irresponsible or destructive behavior.
Ways to help yourself when you are codependent:
-
Create distance from the person(s) concerned
-
Become aware of your own limits and needs
-
Increase focus on your own values and self-esteem
